Pastor Dan Gets Pied at Tools for Faith & Fun

Wednesday nights are Family Night at OBCC. Tools for Faith & Fun is a new program designed for families to learn about God together. We begin the evening with a family-style meal and table discussions, then move to activities, skits, games, and Biblical teaching, all centered around a specific theme.

This week's topic was money management from a Biblical perspective. At the dinner table, everyone was give three dollars (funny money, not real money), and challenged to multiply their personal wealth by earning money from other people in the room. The person with the most money at the end of dinner won the privilege of hitting Pastor Dan in the face with a pie at the end of the evening. Kids scrambled from table to table earning money by clearing plates, giving back rubs, singing songs, giving kisses and hugs... They were very creative!

Eddie Mason & Jessica Martinson tied for the prize at $45 each. Here's what Pastor Dan looked like afterwards:

Sorry you missed the fun? Join us every Wednesday night at 6:30 for an evening of family fun. (The grown ups seem to be enjoying this program as much as the kids!) Dinner costs $3.00 per person, but kids under 12 eat for free.

Another Great OBCC Picnic!

The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and the company was awesome!!! Another church picnic has come and gone, but here's a few photos of the day. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event a complete success. A very special thanks to our Event Coordinator, Becky Gumber, who did a superb job of planning and coordinating every detail.

Thanks to Pat Piscopo & Beth Komon for supplying photos. Watch for the July issue of Community Focus to be available this coming Sunday. We'll have a complete recap of all the action and the Quad Competition, as well as a report on our booth at Heritage Fest, and much, much more.

Pictures from Wednesday Night

Thought I'd post a few pictures from our first night of Tools For Faith and Fun. The evening was well attended and was family-friendly.

Pastor Dan presented the value of pronouncing blessings on each other in a variety of creative ways.

Following some activities at the tables, Becky Brozovic, Ken Cerny & I.J. Ampil joined Pastor Dan in a skit about Essau & Jacob.

After a short talk about family blessings, everyone returned to their tables to put what we'd learned into action.

Join us next Wednesday a whole new set of family activities. Dinner is served family style at 6:30pm and the activities begin soon after. Meal cost is $3.00 per person, but kids under 12 eat for free.

Awana Pie In The Face Night

Thought I would share some pics from last week at Awana. In January there was a push for memorizing sections & the top kids names went into a hat. Twelve names were pulled from the hat to throw pies in the Commander's face! Is this hilarious?

What a sport Commander Dave was! Smiling with every throw!

If you're kids aren't involved in Awana, come check it out any Friday night at 7:00pm. For complete details contact the church office.

Have You Taken Your Photo Yet?

We're putting together the church photo directory for 2009. It's a great way to connect with the OBCC family. Have you had your picture taken yet?

The photo booth is located in the Activity Center and is open for only three more Sundays. The booth is manned between services and immediately following the 10:30 service. (Ani will also be happy to set up an appointment during business hours, Monday through Friday, if you're having problems getting the whole family together on a Sunday.) We've gotten pretty good at photo retouching over the past couple of years, so don't try to use the excuse that you're not photogenic.

Greenhouse "Jan-Term" Begins Sunday

As part of our January emphasis on hungering for God, we have made a few changes to Greenhouse for this month. In conjunction with Pastor Chip's sermon series, a new three-session class on prayer & fasting begins this Sunday. It will meet in the conference room from 9:45-10:30am, with a different focus and teacher each week. Here's the schedule:

1/11: Spiritual Disciplines
1/18: Intercessory Prayer
1/25: Developing a Devotional Life

If you were here last Sunday, you're probably aware that the band led an extended time of musical worship between the morning services. This will continue each Sunday throughout January. At the conclusion of the 8:30am service, the band will continue to lead worship in the auditorium until 5-10 minutes prior to the 10:30am service. You are free to come and go as needed during that time.

A full set of new Christian Ed classes begin on Sunday, February 1st. Watch the bulletin for a complete list of the new class offerings over the next few weeks.

Check Out Pastor Chip's Blog

Every once in a while, Pastor Chip ventures into the blogosphere. This year he's asked me to hold him accountable to be more consistent with his blogs. I have accepted the challenge. However, there are several ways you can encourage him, too:
  1. Subscribe to his blog. If he knows people are reading it, he'll be motivated to blog more often.
  2. Post comments or questions about his blog. It's a great way to get to engage in the process.
  3. If you haven't seen a new posting for a while, ask him why. Again, if he knows people are reading, it helps with his motiviation.

There are plenty of other suggestions, I'm sure, but let's just keep it simple. To check out the blog you can click on the link below.
